Lung carcinoma is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in both Indonesia and globally. The incidence of lung carcinoma continues to increase over time. Globally, cancer cases are projected to double by 2050, with lung carcinoma being the most significant contributor. According to the latest GLOBOCAN data from 2022, new lung carcinoma cases reached 2,480,675 worldwide. This study aimed to analyze the clinicopathological profile of lung carcinoma patients at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang during the period of 2023–2024.
This research is a descriptive study using secondary data from medical records with a retrospective approach. The study used a total sampling method, resulting in a total of 287 samples. The findings are presented in the form of frequency distribution tables.
The study results showed that 94.4% of patients were over 40 years old, with the majority being male (81.2%) and most of them being smokers (51.9%). The most common pulmonary comorbidity among patients was tuberculosis (15%), and 95.8% of patients presented with mixed symptoms, with 99% experiencing cough. The most frequently found cell type was adenocarcinoma (48.4%), and 84.3% of patients were diagnosed at stage IV.
The results of this study showed that most lung carcinoma patients were over 40 years old, male, and either current or former smokers, with tuberculosis being the most common pulmonary comorbidity. Additionally, nearly all patients presented with mixed symptoms, with adenocarcinoma being the most common cell type. Most patients were diagnosed at stage IV, and adenocarcinoma was also the most prevalent histological type across different age groups, sexes, smoking statuses, pulmonary disease histories, clinical symptoms, and cancer stages.
