Profile of Poisoning Cases at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang from 2019 to 2023

Poisoning is a serious medical condition that can be caused by various harmful substances and often not well detected, especially in sudden death. This study aim to determine the profile of poisoning cases at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang during 2019 to 2023.
This is a descriptive cross-sectional study with a retrospective approach. It used secondary data from medical records of poisoning patients from 2019 to 2023, with total sampling technique. During this period, 55 patients met the inclusion criteria.
Based on the research findings, most cases occurred in the adult age group (74.5%), with the majority being male (63.6%). Agricultural or plantation chemicals were the most common type of poison (56.4%), with most cases involving oral ingestion (76.4%). The majority of cases were caused by accidental exposure (67.3%). Nausea and vomiting were the most frequently reported clinical symptoms (25.4%). Most poisoning cases resulted in patient recovery (70.9%), and the majority were not referred to forensic examination (76.4%).
The case profile of poisoning at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang showed the need for caution in the use of toxins in agriculture or plantations, especially pesticides, considering that Indonesia was an agrarian country. Furthermore, an evaluation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in handling poisoning cases at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang was required.
