Abstract

Abstract
Background:
A student’s academic performance index can be increased or decreased through participation in committees. Students can participate in multiple committees during the same period during their studies. Current research focuses only on general organizational activities and does not specifically examine the relationship between the number of committees and students’ academic performance index.

Objective: To determine the relationship between the number of participations in committees and the academic performance index of Universitas Andalas Medical students.

Methods: This research is a correlational analytical study with a cross-sectional design, involving 248 students from the classes of 2022 and 2023. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire to determine the number of participants in committees and a summary of the academic performance index from the campus academic department. Respondents were selected using stratified random sampling, with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test after testing for normality, which resulted in abnormal data.

Results: There is a significant, very weak positive correlation between the number of committee participations and the academic performance index of Universitas Andalas Medical students.

Keywords: Academic performance index, number of committees, medical student
