Background: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are a common complaint among informal sector workers, including those in the batik industry, due to static and unergonomic working positions. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the POSE (Posture Optimized for Sustainable Efficiency) ergonomic chair in reducing MSD complaints among batik workers at the UMKM Dewi Ratih Sragen.
Method: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 44 batik workers, divided into two groups (control and experimental). The experimental group was given the POSE chair intervention for five workdays. The measurement instrument used was the Nordic Body Map (NBM).
Result: Data analysis was performed using Paired T-Test and Independent T-Test. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant decrease in MSDs scores from 86.50 to 55.05 (p<0.001), while the control group experienced an increase from 86.73 to 87.36 (p=0.175). Cohen's d value of 4.616 indicates a large intervention effect.
Conclusion: This study concluded that the POSE chair is effective as an ergonomic intervention to reduce MSD complaints.
