Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is 1.15-spaced; uses a 10.5-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

All contributing authors’ information must be entered on the submission portal at the time of submission and their names arranged in the correct order for publication. The full name of each author must be present in the exact format they should appear for publication, including or excluding any middle names or initials as required. The affiliation of each contributing author should be correct on their individual author name. Any request to change authorship (such as adding/deleting authors or modifying order of authors) during revisions must be well justified, and they are subject to editorial approval. No change in authorship is allowed after the manuscript is accepted for publication.

Author(s) are discouraged from withdrawing submitted manuscript after it is in the publication process (review, copyedit, layout, etc.). Please note that, JIKESI had spent valuable resources besides time spent in the process.

Category

Authors must categorize their manuscript as part of the manuscript information. The category which most closely describes their manuscript should be selected from the list below. 

  • Research article contains articles on original research results in basic or applied/clinical medical sciences and health. The format consists of: Title, Abstract (Indonesian and English), Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion and Reference.
  • Review articles provides a comprehensive summary of research on a certain topic regarding the latest medical and health science issues. The format consists of: Title, Abstract (Indonesian and English), Introduction, Contents, and Reference.
  • Case Report cases in the field of medical and health sciences that need attention to be disseminated. The case report format consists of: Title, Abstract (Indonesian and English), Introduction, Case, Discussion, and Reference.

Language

  • Manuscript language is Indonesian.
  • English language is preferable and highly recommended. Make sure to proofread the manuscript writing before submission.

Format and Length

JIKESI provide a template for submission. Ensure the manuscript has been carefully prepared according to the following requirements.

  • Manuscript should be written in Ms. Word file; Other file format (LaTex, PDF, etc.) is not acceptable.
  • Articles should be less than 10 pages, including references and appendix.

Structure

As a whole, the manuscript should contain these elements in the following order:

  • A title with a maximum of 12 (twelve) words;
  • Full name of all authors;
  • Affiliation of all authors (Department/division, Institution, Address, City, and Country);
  • Email and phone no. of corresponding author;
  • Abstract;
  • Keywords (maximum 5 words);
  • Main body (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion);
  • Acknowledgments (as appropriate);
  • References.

Abstract

  • It is less than 250 words (In English and Indonesia).
  • It provides a pertinent overview of the work consisting of background, objective, methods, results, and conclusion.
  • Avoid mentioning detailed numerical results; Instead, highlight and emphasize the main conclusion and/or the implication of the proposed research.

Article Organization

Body of articles should be organized structure as follow;

  • Introduction should introduce readers to some background information required to understand the rest of the article, and clearly define the purpose of the research.
  • Method should describe how the research was carried out, and provide information such as the study’s design, timeline, context, participant profiles, and interventions. 
  • Result should present the data collected and statistical analysis performed during the study.
  • Discussion should interpret the significance of the main results/findings, and not just repeat mentioning the result already shown in tables and/or figures. For research on hypothesis testing, explain how the results relate to the hypothesis and provide a succinct explanation of the implications of the findings, particularly in relation to previous related studies.
  • Conclusion should clearly answer the research objectives. Do not mention any numerical result. Instead, discuss the research implications and/or contribution to the research domain and to the general audience.

Table

  • It should be written in the main text as “Table ..”.
  • Do not create a table as picture/image format.
  • Locate the table at the nearest possible place to the text when it is first mentioned in the manuscript.
  • Ensure that any superscripts or asterisks are shown next to the relevant items and have corresponding explanations displayed as footnotes to the table.

Figure

  • It should be written in the main text as “Figure ...”.
  • Locate the figure at the nearest possible place to the text when it is first mentioned in the manuscript.
  • Keep the Figure at the smallest possible size as long as all information it contains is of clear resolution and readable.
  • Figures created in MS Word, MS PowerPoint and/or MS Excel should be supplied in their native formats.
  • Electronic figures created in other applications (software) should be copied from the origin source.
  • The font size in the figure should be proportional with the size of the figure.
  • Ensure that any superscripts or asterisks are shown next to the relevant items and have corresponding explanations displayed as footnotes to figure.

Acknowledgments

Those who contribute but do not meet all criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors, but should be acknowledged in this section. Only the names of the persons (not their roles) should be written.

References

  • Author(s) should strictly follow the AMA Manual of Style, 10th Edition, with superscript reference numbers after the punctuation. The style should be carefully checked for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • List references in numerical order (i.e. consecutively as they appear in the document/presentation; NOT alphabetical order)
  • Use authors’ surname followed by their initials without periods. If there are < 6 authors, all should be named. If there are > 6 authors, list the first 3 followed by “et al.”
  • Include the DOI (whichever apply).
  • The use of the most recent primary references should be at least 60% of the total number of references.
  • The use of Mendeley as a tool in referencing is preferable and encouraged.

For online references, do not use the phrase "Available at," but include the date it was published.
